The Tandem at a glance
The Tandem makes a deeper lot work harder. Its upper apartment brings together open living, four-place dining and a complete kitchen, with two queen bedrooms at the quiet end of the plan. A stacked laundry pair and separate linen storage sit beside the bathroom. Below, two cars park in line, leaving space for a courtyard-end workbench, storage and a separate service room. A timber stair provides an independent apartment entrance. Warm off-white siding, a brick-look base and wood accents give the alley-facing exterior its character. Tandem parking requires moving the alley-side car before the inner car can leave; final vehicle fit and lot placement are developed for the site.

How it's built
The Tandem, built with panelized construction
MBS builds The Tandem from factory-made wall panels, floor cassettes and roof panels, CNC-cut in our St. Louis plant to the approved drawings. Panels ship flat and are set on a conventional foundation. The finished ADU is wood framing, not a modular box or a manufactured home, with a 50% quicker construction schedule.
